Opal Inn Caravan Park
Park features
Coober Pedy is one of the opal mining capitals of the world, with the industry still thriving today. The town is well set up to welcome tourists from all over the world, who come to explore the unique history of the area and the awe-inspiring landscapes of the desert.
The locals are friendly and welcoming, and if you’re lucky you may even be invited to check out one their underground homes. Many locals actually live in disused systems of mine shafts, which stay cool year-round, even in the blistering summer heat.
When visiting Coober Pedy, your first choice of accommodation should be Opal Inn Hotel, Motel and Caravan Park. Centrally located in the town and offering a variety of accommodation, the park is the perfect spot from which to explore this fascinating town.
The park has a number of hotel and motel rooms available – just perfect if you’ve arrived by plane or have driven up to Cooper Pedy in a car or on a tour. With both standard and family motel rooms available, you are sure to be comfortable. Family rooms include a kitchenette where you can prepare a meal, as well as a dining area and comfortable beds. All rooms are fitted with air conditioning so you can escape from the desert heat outside to the cool of your room.
If you’ve arrived with a caravan, camper or tent, there are over 50 spacious powered sites available, as well as unpowered and tent sites. Visitors are free to use the BBQs to cook up a bush dinner, and the campfire is a perfect place to star gaze and stay warm as the cool desert night draws in. Sites are also dog friendly.
If you’d like to spoil yourself, the park also has a large restaurant and bar where you can enjoy a drink and a meal. There are even conference facilities available.
Coober Pedy is packed with things to do, so if you need any advice or recommendations, the park runs a tour desk where they can answer any questions. Take a tour down a mine to really experience the area, or try your luck and go ‘noodling’ for opals. If you prefer your opals already mined, there is an abundance of shops in the town selling jewellery, opals and other treasures.
Coober Pedy is also famous for the underground buildings, so make sure you marvel at the underground homes, shops and churches – an experience you’ll won’t find anywhere else.
When visiting Coober Pedy, Opal Inn Hotel, Motel and Caravan Park is the perfect location from which to explore this unique desert town.
